A project built from the ground up.

Orateva develops forest carbon projects directly, from the first conversations in a territory through to independent verification.

What a project includes

Reforestation, conservation, community partnership and carbon belong to a single project. They are designed together, carried out together, and monitored together over time.

These elements need to be designed together. Agreements with the community organise the work. Field measurements track the results. Planting and maintenance give the project a concrete basis.

  • Territory diagnosis, soils, existing forest and current practices
  • Community agreements, governance and benefit sharing
  • Nursery production, site preparation, planting and maintenance
  • Monitoring, reporting and verification under the VCS
  • Preparation of financing and certification files

Reforestation and conservation, chosen for each territory

Activities are chosen according to the characteristics of the land. Several approaches can be combined within the same project.

  1. 01

    Assisted natural regeneration

Where a seed source remains, protecting and helping what is already coming back costs less and holds better than planting from scratch.

  2. 02

    Native species planting

Queñua and other high Andean natives, grown in local nurseries, planted where erosion and water retention make the strongest case.

  3. 03

    Conservation of standing forest

Remaining stands are often more valuable than anything that can be replanted. Protecting them is part of the project, not a separate one.

  4. 04

    Agroforestry and grazing management

Trees have to coexist with the farming and grazing that already feed the community. Where they do not, neither survives.

Where carbon fits

Carbon finance can help fund the preparation, planting, maintenance and monitoring of a project over the long term.

It remains a way to support the project, not its only purpose. The species, areas and activities must first respond to the territory and the priorities agreed with the community.

Orateva is preparing its projects for a possible pathway under the Verified Carbon Standard, administered by Verra. Eligibility, methodology, independent validation and registration must be demonstrated before verified credits can be issued.
